Welcome again. I will be posting information related to things that you might do to protect your system from Viruses and Malware (malicious programs). Note: Shaw and Telus both have a downloadable spam blocker. It is very important to download all the critical updates from Microsoft and keep your anti virus software updated via their LIVE UPDATE feature. I will post direct links to the locations asap.

I have been using the following programs for some time now and am very pleased with the results.
1. Internet Browser: NOT Internet Explorer but a new Browser called FIREBIRD by Mozilla. www.mozilla.com .
2. Mail Program: NOT Outlook Express but a new one called THUNDERBIRD by Mozilla.
3. Virus Protection by GRISOFT called AVG (and it's FREE) from www.grisoft.com. It updates daily and scans the system daily.
Added notes for protection: If you have AVG and are getting a notice that it is about to expire, just go back to the LINK to their site and get the FREE ver.7.5: EWido from AVG is now replaced by AVG Anti-Spyware which is also a FREE program. It's not always what we want to do, but sometimes we have to learn a new program, especially when we're finally comfortable with the programs we have already use. BUT are you really comfortable with the hassel of POP-UPS, PORNO, ADs galore and Internet Browser HELPERS re-routing your path?
Things are not getting any easier. As we surf and communicate via the net, ANY information that can be gathered from us is worth the effort expended by the advertising giants. Not to mention the effort of pioneers of crisis (internet terrorists) and just feeble minds with time on their hands. As we find solutions to the havock inflicted upon our net communities, THEY upgrade their means of attact, similar to the old SPY vs SPY from MAD magazine. So we have to become educated and change our methods of usage to incorporate an added armament of security procedures and if you don't, you will pay with frustration, tech money, and NOT HAVE FUN (which it should be fun).
